About drop shipping and how this model works?

As I mentioned earlier, drop shipping is an e-commerce model which you can start your selling business right away even without a money investment. It’s so simple in which you just need to send orders to the supplier and they will ship them to customers for you.

Having said that, it’s is never ever “simple” to make customers come to the decision of purchasing your products. You have to research your niche, the products you are going to sell, and ultimately create a proper marketing plan.

To go into more details, here is how the process works:

You can create an online store in any niche that you want. If you choose the niche that you know or in your hobby, you will know what are products that people use on that hobby to add on your store. It can be an advantage over your competitors.

But if you want to sell something new, it’s ok. You can do research about the niche and then find the proper products or vice versa. Both of techniques work but I prefer the first one.

Once you have chosen a niche, you need a drop shipper. You can choose any supplier that you trust but incase it’s hard to make a decision, AliExpress and Oberlo can be two recommended options by Shopify. Both drop shippers are friendly to beginners.

Want to build a successful drop shipping store? Never miss these tips!

  1. Find best products

Most customers look for the best-selling or hot products of a niche.

The more interested customers are in the products, the more likely they are to purchase them. So, start finding the best products for your online store. Let me show you how.

First, go to AliExpress (or any supplier’s website you trust) and type a relevant keyword in the search box.

After you tap on “search” button, the results will appear and it’s easy to see the products with most sales and best reviews. You can click on each product to see its description, shipping details, feedbacks of buyers, etc.,

Now, try to imagine yourself to be a customer, will you purchase this product or not? If the answer is yes and you believe that you can sell it at a higher price, just go ahead, add it to your store and make it sell.

Another way that I can suggest is visiting your competitors’ online stores to see what they are selling.

  2. Use marketing channels to drive traffic to your new Shopify Store.

Website traffic is lifeblood of every online business. The more visitors your site attracts, the more potential customers see your products, meaning the more sales you generate.

How you can increase traffic for your site? The most powerful way is using marketing channels like Facebook, YouTube and Blog. Now we can walk through all of them one by one.

    Facebook Ads

According to the 2017 Social Media Industry report by Social Media Examiner, 62% of marketers believe Facebook is their most important network. It is no surprise Facebook is so popular to marketers. Why? Facebook ads is cheaper than other advertising alternatives and can be a long-term strategy.

When launching a Facebook advertising campaign, the very first step you have to do is creating your own fan page. The more clicks, likes and shares you get on your fan page means the more successful the campaign is.

There are many helpful resources which provide guides on Facebook advertising, Shopify’s tutorials itself are really a good one with up to 12 chapters digging deep into Facebook marketing. You can check out here

    YouTube Channel

The most effective way to sell products is showing how good or useful they are. And YouTube, for sure, is a great place to get started.

There, you can use your account to share and upload videos about your experience with a product. It can be videos comparing your product with others’, how-to-use videos, review videos and much more.

Creating a video and upload it on YouTube is very easy and doesn’t require any technique. What matters is how you can communicate with other people in your niche. Perhaps it takes time but if you create a video a day, hopefully in less than a year you will have enough subscribers to make sales, even countless sales.

If you aren’t confident enough to be in front of the camera, don’t worry, there are alternatives. You can make a video using PowerPoint or screen record.

Blog is undoubtedly a potential channel that drives traffic to your store. Why?

First, each time a blog post is indexed means you’ve gained an opportunity for your website to be shown up in search engines. Second, you can reach out to a wider range of audience when people share your blog posts on social media like Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest. Last but not least, blog content can help keep your social media presence going. Instead of creating new content for social media, you can use your blog as a repository of content.

Writing blogs requires some basic SEO and keyword strategies. But simpler, you can write guides, handle frequently asked questions of customers, or review products.

Besides blog, there are other ways that can drive traffic such as affiliate marketing, advertising programs, sponsored posts, etc. But above all, Shopify highly recommend blog since it can make the main source of income. According to a Hubspot survey, 60% of businesses who blog acquire more customers.
